Oliver Smith, Head of Membership

Employee Ownership Association

Oliver has been supporting businesses explore and become employee owned across the UK and so understands the needs of businesses in the sector. The Employee Ownership Association (EOA) supports over 400 member organisations.

The shape and size of the employee owned sector is changing. Once reliant on a handful of large businesses, more recently there has been growth in employee ownership as a succession option for SMEs and family businesses, with now 380 employee owned businesses in the UK and this figure rises each week. As well as this, in the past two years, we have seen the transition of some larger privately owned businesses including Aardman Animations, Riverford Organics and Richer Sounds.

Part of the membership proposition at the EOA is the UK wide quarterly Regional Network Meetings that enable people to connect and learn. Oliver will be sharing the ‘warts n all’ experiences of how these meetings have grown in stature from inception to present day, the impact of this method on engaging members and how they have contributed to a recent 45.4 Net Promoter Score.
