Halita Obineche, Director of Membership
The Magistrates' Association
Halita has overall responsibility for the MA’s membership, events, income generation, community activity and internal communications. Under her direction, the MA has seen a 50% increase in annual recruitment rates.
She has created tailored programmes of support for the 54 MA branches across England and Wales, including step by step toolkits (on topics ranging from events, to press guidance, to fundraising) and access to a CRM; overhauled all membership communications, including the website, newsletters and MAGISTRATE magazine; diversified the MA’s income streams; and relaunched the MA’s Magistrates in the Community initiative, through which magistrates deliver presentations on the justice system in schools and to community groups – in the last year, MA members delivered presentations to over 80,000 people.
Halita is currently leading on the development of the first ever Special Interest Groups for the magistracy, including groups for young, disabled, BAME, and LGBT+ magistrates
Prior to her current role, she has led on membership and internal communications for the Association of Police and Crime Commissioners and the national Green Party of England and Wales.
Halita has a degree in Public International Law and a Masters in Anthropology and Cultural Politics.
