Christina Kennedy, Head of Membership Services

Middlesex University Students' Union

Christina Kennedy is the Head of Membership Services (Deputy CEO) at Middlesex University Students’ Union supporting students and elected student leaders to campaign for change both within their institution but also within the wider community. Christina was president of her students’ union in 2011-13 and has been involved in the charity sector ever since. She is passionate about access to and success in education, ensuring everyone has the opportunity to access learning regardless of their background or identity. She has run and supported successful campaigns on a range of areas such as mental health provision, sexual violence and hate crime reporting, refugee resettlement and access to post study work visas for international students wishing to remain in the UK. Christina has worked in three university students’ unions within campaigning roles as well as working in a drug service with individuals recovering from addiction and volunteering on the crisis phone lines for Rape Crisis. She is passionate about civil justice, has strong feminist values and believes in equality of opportunity for all individuals in society.

This session is led by Christina Kennedy, Head of Membership at Middlesex University Students' Union. This session will focus on campaigns and advocacy and has the following learning outcomes: understand the power of the collective member voice; how this can be transferred to every sector via campaigns and advocacy work; how the public good/public benefit focus (especially of education) impacts wider than just your communities and members.
