5.2 – Passion and Purpose: CPD and the Benefit Mindset
10:40 am - 11:10 am
This session is led by Maria O’Malley, Head of Membership Engagement and Development at IOSH, the world’s largest and only chartered body for safety and health professionals, with over 47,000 members in every industry sector across 130 countries. This session will focus on a concept called the Benefit Mindset. Understanding of the self is crucial to personal development, but wellbeing and fulfilment can only truly be achieved through meaningful self-application. In this session, discover how CPD can help your members find a renewed sense of passion and purpose through nurturing a Benefit Mindset. It has the following learning outcomes:
- Explain how the Benefit Mindset model developed by Australian researcher Ash Buchanan expands Carol Dweck’s 2006 Fixed and Growth Mindset theory, redefining success “from being the best in the world, to being the best for the world”;
- Apply the Benefit Mindset to link wellbeing and learning, demonstrating to their members how CPD can help them find their passion and purpose as professionals in their chosen field by making meaningful contributions;
- Review IOSH’s journey with CPD as a case study, particularly looking at how to secure member buy-in through motivation and how IOSH intends to develop a sense of purpose through learning and leadership.
