1.7 – Relevant for a New Generation: Creating a new brand and digital story in turbulent times

This session is led by Andrew Pakes, Communications Director and Stuart Hill, Digital Manager at Prospect, which is the union for over 150,000 members that work in a variety of professional roles such as engineers, scientists, tech & data workers, and public services. In 2017, Prospect merged with Bectu, the union for broadcasting and the creative industries, to create one new union with two brands. Three years into this modernisation plan, Covid changed everything from how the union recruited members to the delivery of member services.

This session will focus on the lessons of the merger and how that influenced its response to Covid 19. It has the following learning outcomes:

  • How to listen to your members and potential members;
  • How to create a new organisation with two brands;
  • How to get a membership organisation to agree to a big step change;
  • How an online user experience can translate into a member experience.
