Joni Tyler, Head of CPD

Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA)

As Head of CPD, I am responsible for policy, strategy, curriculum and accreditation. Working with colleagues, members and a wide range of stakeholders, my role is to ensure that architects have the right guidance, support and provision in place to maintain competence, to encourage professionalism, to increase capabilities and to flourish and succeed.  Of late, my thoughts are of enabling them – and us – to future-proof and to withstand, embrace and use the accelerating pace of disruption.

I currently lead a built environment CPD group; am a member of the CPD policy working groups for the Architects Council of Europe and the Union of International Architects; past chair of the Construction Industry Council learning panel; past chair of the Homes and Communities Agency CPD group; a member of the CABE inclusive design steering group; a frequent consultant on CPD matters for other professions in the UK and internationally; and an active public speaker on CPD.

In my down time, I have recently been appointed as a trustee for the Phoenix Cinema in East Finchley.  A charitable trust, The Phoenix is an independent single screen community cinema.  It was built in 1910 and opened in 1912 and is one of the oldest continuously-running cinemas in the UK.
